Empowering lives through accessible and inclusive mental healthcare.

At Open Paths Counseling Center, we believe that quality mental healthcare should be affordable, compassionate, and culturally-affirming. Our mission is to meet the evolving mental health needs of the community through quality counseling for individuals and families at affordable fees; free therapy programs for at-risk children and youth in local schools; and a highly-respected therapist training program.

Our History

Open Paths Counseling Center was founded in 1975 by two marriage & family therapists and three probation officers who saw a need for low-cost counseling services on Los Angeles' westside. Over the years, we have grown and expanded our services to include Intimate Partner Abuse Therapy, Therapy Groups, EMDR, Community Partnership Therapy Program, and Therapy In Schools Program. We have also established partnerships with community organizations to serve clients in their neighborhoods.

Our Approach

We offer compassionate, culturally-affirming, trauma-informed psychotherapy to individuals and families who face financial, geographical, and cultural barriers to therapy. Our fees are structured using a sliding-scale based on household income to ensure affordability. Our clinical training program centers on the clients and communities served specifically by Open Paths, thereby ensuring our therapists are providing services through a culturally-affirming and trauma-informed lens. Most services are offered in Spanish and English, and at times, individual, couples, and family therapy is available in other languages as well.

Our Services

We offer a range of counseling services, including Adults, Couples, Families & Children, Intimate Partner Abuse Therapy, Therapy Groups, EMDR, Community Partnership Therapy Program, and Therapy In Schools Program. Our services are designed to be comprehensive and inclusive, addressing the unique needs of our clients. We also offer Clinical Training Programs for therapists, equipping them with the skills and knowledge to provide effective therapy.

Our Community

We believe that strong partnerships with community organizations are essential to achieving our mission. We have established partnerships with local schools, non-profit organizations, and social service agencies to provide therapy services to underserved communities. Our funders and supporters play a critical role in enabling us to continue providing high-quality services to our clients.
