Compassion choice creating change

At Chicago Counseling Associates, we believe in the dignity and autonomy of each person and family we work with. Our mission is to provide and teach client-centered therapy, building on the tradition started by Carl Rogers and carried forward by his students and community internationally. We are dedicated to providing high-quality, affordable counseling services for individuals, intimate partners, and families. Our staff have been particularly influenced by training at the Chicago Counseling and Psychotherapy Center (CCPC), an outgrowth of the original University of Chicago Counseling Center founded by Dr. Rogers in 1945.

We are passionate about creating a community of person-centered psychotherapists who are interested in rigorous clinical thinking, dedicated to self-awareness and examination, and meticulous in their appreciation of difference and privilege in the lives of our clients and ourselves. Our deep roots in the client-centered tradition guide us as we provide effective, thoughtful, life-enhancing services to our clients. We appreciate that psychological difficulties live within the web of our bodies, families, communities, and society.

Our services include counseling for individuals, couples, and families, as well as training and supervision programs for graduate students and professionals. We are committed to supporting the development of the person-centered approach through our graduate student internships, postgraduate fellowships, and continuing education and consultation programs. Our senior staff has extensive experience in client-centered counseling, supervision, and training, ensuring that our clients receive the highest level of care and support.

Our Community

Our community is built on a foundation of mutual respect, trust, and a shared commitment to person-centered values. We believe that every individual has the capacity for growth and change, and we strive to create a safe and supportive environment for our clients to explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. We recognize the importance of ongoing education and training for ourselves and our clients, ensuring that our services are always up-to-date and effective.

Our Staff

Our senior staff includes Carolyn Schneider, A.M., LCPC, who has provided client-centered counseling, supervision, and training since 1989. She received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Chicago and completed internship training at the CCPC. Carolyn has also served as Mental Health Director at the Center on Halsted and as Director of Professional Development at Live Oak.
