Our Story
At Sun State Builders, we have a rich history that spans over five decades. Founded in 1973 by Jim Chamberlain, our company has grown to become a leading Arizona general contractor. With a portfolio of commercial and residential projects throughout Arizona, we have established ourselves as a trusted partner for our clients.
Our Leadership
Under the visionary leadership of Jim Chamberlain, our company has continued to thrive and evolve. In 2020, Jim expanded the company's ownership, adding three longtime employees - Curt Johanson, Mike Forst, and Andrea Piering - as partners. Curt Johanson joined our team as a superintendent in 1993 and rose through the ranks to become a senior project manager and vice president overseeing quality control. Mike Forst has been with us for over two decades, serving as our finance and development manager. Andrea Piering, who joined us in 1998, has gained expertise in project management, overseeing more than $250 million in construction.
In January 2024, Curt Johnson formally retired, and Jim Chamberlain stepped down from his position as CEO. Jim now serves as an active advisor to the company, focusing on development and growth. Mike Forst takes the reins as CEO, and Andrea Piering assumes the role of president. Together, they share a vision for building on our strong foundation and moving the company forward with innovation and growth.
