Our Mission

The District of Columbia Life & Health Insurance Guaranty Association exists to protect District of Columbia residents who hold life and health insurance policies or individual annuities from the potential financial impact of an insurance company going insolvent. We are committed to efficiently administering the liquidation process and ensuring uninterrupted coverage for eligible policyholders.

Who We Are

Established in 1992 by the District of Columbia City Council, the District of Columbia Life & Health Insurance Guaranty Association is a statutory entity composed of all insurers licensed to sell life insurance, accident and health insurance, and individual annuities in the District of Columbia.

What We Do

When a member insurer is found to be insolvent and ordered to be liquidated, the guaranty association steps in to:

• Identify and liquidate the insurer's assets to compensate eligible policyholders.
• Provide temporary coverage for eligible policyholders until new coverage is secured.
• Transfer policies to other insurance companies when possible.

How We Can Help

If you hold a life and health insurance policy or individual annuity with an insolvent insurer, you may be eligible for protection under the Guaranty Association Act. This protection is available without any additional charge to you.
