Our Vision and Mission

National Child Research Center (NCRC) Preschool is proud to be the oldest continuously operating preschool in the District of Columbia, serving the Washington, D.C. area since 1928. Our mission is to nurture the whole child - socially, emotionally, and intellectually - toward a lifelong love of learning. We strive to create a diverse, family-focused community that is inclusive of children who benefit from additional supports and adaptations.

Our Philosophy

Our highly skilled faculty uses research-based best practices to lead children in a play-based, child-centered curriculum that reveals and enhances each child's skills. We believe that every child belongs, and each brings unique gifts to the community. We value collaboration, learning from one another, and sharing ideas, traditions, and talents in a diverse and inclusive environment.

Our Services

NCRC Preschool offers a range of programs for children from ages 2 to 5, including:

  • Early Learning (Ages 2-3): A program designed for our youngest learners, focusing on social, emotional, and cognitive development.
  • Preschool (Ages 3-4): A play-based curriculum that fosters social, emotional, and cognitive growth.
  • Prekindergarten (Ages 4-5): A program that prepares children for kindergarten, focusing on literacy, math, and social skills.
  • Inclusion Programs: Our inclusive programs provide additional supports and adaptations for children who benefit from them.

Inclusion and Diversity

At NCRC Preschool, we are committed to creating an inclusive and diverse community. We believe that every child has the right to learn and grow in an environment that values and celebrates their differences. We offer a range of programs and services to support children with additional needs, including our Inclusion & Child Development Team (CDT).

Community Engagement

We believe that community is at the heart of our school. We encourage parent involvement through regular events and activities, such as our Spring Tuition Assistance Benefit and our Legacy Giving campaign. We also offer a range of community programs and services, including our Summer at NCRC program.
