Metzger Community Preschool is a non-profit, play-based cooperative preschool located in Tigard, OR. Established over 60 years ago, we have a rich history of providing a nurturing and stimulating learning environment for young children. Our commitment to the community, families, and our fantastic teacher has helped us become one of the oldest operating cooperative preschools in the Portland metropolitan area.
Our Philosophy
At Metzger Community Preschool, we believe in the power of play as a means of early learning. We provide an interactive classroom where children can self-guide their learning at various interest centers and outdoor play areas. Our experienced teacher enhances their learning and development through various activities, cooking projects, science projects, daily circle times, and more. Our philosophy is grounded in respect - respect for oneself, respect for others, and respect for our school. We are a cooperative school, and parents are encouraged to be actively involved in their child's learning experience.
Cooperative Preschool
As a cooperative, we emphasize family involvement. Our school is operated by a professional teacher with parents as assistant teachers. This arrangement allows parents to increase their knowledge and parenting skills by working with the children in specific learning and play situations and by aiding in the guidance of their behavior. Our program embraces play as essential to early learning, and we believe that through play, children learn essential life skills.
A Rich History
Metzger Community Preschool has a rich history dating back to 1963. Over the years, we have adapted to the changing needs of our community, but our commitment to providing a high-quality, play-based learning environment has remained constant. Our current facility within Tigard Friends Community Church provides students with two indoor learning spaces and an extensive outdoor space and play structure.
Our Teacher
Teacher Paula has a passion for working with young children, and it shows in the warm, inviting school environment she creates. With many years of experience, she understands the unique needs of young learners and provides a nurturing and stimulating environment where children can thrive.
Membership Requirements
As a cooperative preschool, we require parent/volunteer involvement. Parents are expected to work in the classroom, attend all school meetings, hold a board or committee position, participate in fundraising and general school maintenance events. This arrangement not only helps keep tuition affordable but also provides opportunities for parents to be actively involved in their child's education.
Tuition & Registration
Metzger Community Preschool is a 501c3 nonprofit organization. The tuition and fees go towards the operations of our school and teacher salary. We do our best to provide a tuition that is fair and affordable for all who attend our school. Registration for the 2024-2025 school year is now open.
