Our Story

Janssen Builders is a construction company built on a foundation of integrity, experience, and a passion for exceeding client expectations. Our founder and owner, Pete Janssen, embarked on his journey in the construction industry in 1987, joining the Carpenters 46 Union of Northern California. He quickly immersed himself in the commercial side of the trade, honing his skills on projects as diverse as Fremont Ford, REI, and Planet Granite. Seeking to refine his craftsmanship, Pete transitioned to an apprenticeship with a custom home builder in Lake Tahoe, where he learned the art of creating bespoke architectural masterpieces. This experience instilled in him a meticulous approach to detail and a commitment to delivering projects of exceptional quality.

In 1993, Janssen Builders was born, marking the beginning of Pete's journey as an independent builder. He started with a project in San Jose, The Usual Nightclub, which showcased his exceptional finish work and garnered him a reputation for excellence. Word of mouth spread quickly, leading to an influx of referrals for bars and restaurants, transforming Janssen Builders into a prominent name in the region's culinary scene. Projects like The Agenda Lounge, The Spy, Shark And Rose, Johnny V's, Mission Ale House, Willow Glen Billiards & Brew, and Fleming's Steakhouse stand as testament to the company's commitment to delivering stunning, functional spaces.

As Janssen Builders continued to grow, the company expanded its expertise to encompass the realm of luxury custom homes. Pete's vision encompassed creating dream homes in some of the Bay Area's most coveted neighborhoods, including Portola Valley, Menlo Park, Atherton, Los Altos, and Los Gatos.
