Our Story

Our company was founded in 1898 by Phillip German, who initially started the business under the name "Germans." He specialized in the installation and service of windmills and water systems. To this day, you can still see his work in the Poweshiek County area with his name printed on standing windmills. Over the years, the business has evolved and expanded, passing through generations of the German family. Today, we are proud to offer a wide range of services including heating, air conditioning, plumbing, water heaters, geothermal, radiant heat, indoor air quality, sheetmetal construction, remodeling, and more.

Meet Our Team

At German Plumbing Heating and Cooling, we have a team of experienced professionals who are dedicated to providing you with the best service possible. Randy German, who has spent most of his life in the plumbing aspect of the business, is an expert in his field and heads up our Plumbing Division. Scott German, a graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington, joined the family business in 1987 and has developed the heating and cooling side of the business. He is certified and experienced in radiant floor heat, geothermal systems, forced air furnaces, central air conditioners, air cleaners, humidifiers, and heat exchangers. Susan German, who joined the company in 2001 as Business Operations Manager, also handles plumbing sales and design aspects of the company. She has a diploma from the Interior Design Institute of New York and can assist you with your building or remodeling needs right down to the smallest of details. Our field team consists of licensed, experienced, and courteous technicians who are experts in their fields and committed to delivering the highest quality of products and services.
