The American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical, and Petroleum Engineers (AIME) stands as a cornerstone of the engineering profession, dedicated to advancing the technical development and broader understanding of mining, metallurgical, petroleum, and materials science. A Legacy of Shaping the Future

Since its inception in 1871, AIME has played a pivotal role in shaping the landscape of engineering in the United States. Founded by 22 passionate mining engineers in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, AIME emerged as one of the nation's earliest national engineering societies. Joining forces with ASCE, ASME, IEEE, and AIChE, AIME earned its designation as an Engineering Founder Society, contributing significantly to the foundation and growth of the engineering profession as we know it today. As a member of the United Engineering Foundation (UEF), AIME actively participates in initiatives that promote interdisciplinary collaboration and advancement across all branches of engineering.

We support four prominent Member Societies: AIST (Association for Iron and Steel Technology), SME (Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration), SPE (Society of Petroleum Engineers), and TMS (The Minerals, Metals, and Materials Society).
