Epiphany Lutheran Nursery School has been a cherished fixture in the West End of Richmond, Virginia since 1972. Our Educational Philosophy

At Epiphany Lutheran Nursery School, we embrace the idea that play forms the cornerstone of effective learning. Our teachers utilize developmentally appropriate practices that seamlessly integrate play-based activities into the curriculum. Through engaging indoor and outdoor playtime, story time, music and movement sessions, art explorations, and chapel activities, children cultivate essential skills while joyfully discovering their world.

Our monthly thematic approach ensures a rich and diverse learning experience. Each theme incorporates elements of health habits, science explorations, age-appropriate math concepts, and reading readiness activities, all presented in a way that sparks curiosity and encourages active participation.

Our Pre-K curriculum is meticulously designed to prepare students for the transition to kindergarten, whether they choose public or private schooling. We incorporate aspects of the "Handwriting Without Tears" curriculum to develop essential fine motor skills and early literacy abilities.

While explicit Bible teachings are not part of our regular classroom curriculum, our faith permeates our school environment. We model Christian values through our interactions and create a nurturing space where children experience the principles of love, kindness, and compassion.

Christian holidays are integrated into our thematic learning experiences, allowing children to understand and celebrate different cultural perspectives. Prayer before meals is a cherished practice in our classrooms, instilling a sense of gratitude and respect. Every child benefits from weekly chapel time with one of the Pastors from Epiphany Lutheran Church, fostering a connection to the wider faith community.
