Pig Pen Pottery is a home-based studio located on a family farm in Great Falls, Virginia, where Laura creates functional stoneware pieces for the kitchen and table, stoneware lamps, fountains, and masks. She uses a reduction gas kiln to fire her stoneware and occasionally experiments with Raku, pit firing, saggar firing, and alcohol reduction techniques. The studio is surrounded by the beauty of nature, which often inspires the decorations and themes on her pottery pieces. As a potter, Laura believes that every piece is a reflection of the simplicity and beauty of everyday life, and she strives to make each item not only functional but also a work of art that brings joy to its user. She has been making pots for over 40 years and is self-taught, with a strong sense of optimism and a subtle art of persuasion that allows her to coax the clay into the desired shape.
