High Sierra Area Health Education Center (AHEC) is a designated 501c3 non-profit organization that has been addressing Nevada's healthcare workforce shortages for over 20 years. The organization aims to increase access to primary care in underserved urban and rural communities by recruiting, training, and retaining health professionals. AHEC works in affiliation with the University of Nevada, Reno, School of Medicine and the Office of Statewide Initiatives to serve six counties in Nevada. The organization develops and places future leaders within healthcare practice settings, starting as early as 5th grade. High Sierra AHEC's ultimate goal is to inspire young students to pursue a career in healthcare and provide them with a paved and equitable pathway to their continued success.
