Acton Barn

At Acton Barn Cooperative Preschool, we are dedicated to providing a nurturing and inclusive educational experience for children aged 2.9-6 years old. Our experienced and diverse team of teachers model enthusiasm for learning and discovery, coupled with respect for the uniqueness of each individual. We believe that children thrive in an environment that values their own uniqueness, while providing support and opportunities to grow emotionally, socially, and creatively.

Our Philosophy

Our emergent play-based curriculum is designed to inspire children to explore the world around them and develop new abilities. We believe in "learning through play with hands-on experiences, " where children can build on their strengths, interests, and curiosities. Our approach is based on a variety of sources, including The National Association of Young Children's (NAEYC) Developmentally Appropriate Practices, the Reggio Emilia preschool model, and the work of Maria Montessori, among others.

Our School

Our school is a warm and inviting educational environment, designed to foster the growth and development of young children. Our open floor plan incorporates a variety of centers and a broad spectrum of materials and supplies, including a floor-to-ceiling indoor wooden climber with soft curves and spaces for cooperative play. Our fenced-in outdoor play space is carefully designed with a variety of educational centers, including an enclosed sandbox, playhouse, and insect hotel.

Our Programs

We offer a range of programs designed to meet the needs of our students and their families. Our Together Program is a unique opportunity for children to learn and grow together, while our Members Portal provides a convenient way for parents to stay connected with our school. We also offer a range of fundraising opportunities and events, designed to bring our community together and support our school.
