At Anchor Within Counseling, Inc., we are a team of dedicated professionals who understand the importance of culturally specific care in the mental health industry. We recognize that seeking therapy can be challenging, especially for racial minorities in the Portland-Metro area and across Oregon. Our mission is to provide compassionate, relationship-first care that addresses the unique needs of individuals, families, and communities.

Our Practice

We are committed to serving individuals, families, groups, and the community with a holistic approach that considers intrapersonal, generational, and social influences. Our team members are skilled to serve people from diverse backgrounds, including Black/African, Latino, and Native populations, who have historically been underserved, misdiagnosed, over-diagnosed, and overall mishandled in the mental health industry.

Our care involves attention to individual, family, and community healing. We also honor experiences of faith and recognize that people may find strength, connection, and healing in communities and acts of faith. Our staff members receive specific training in serving Black/African and Latino populations, ensuring that our clients receive the most appropriate and effective care.

Meet the Team

Our team consists of experienced therapists, peer support specialists, and interns who are passionate about providing high-quality, culturally informed care. Each team member has their unique approach and areas of expertise, but we all share a common goal of fostering a safe, supportive environment where our clients can explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors without judgment.

Our team includes Ambrosia Johnson, THW, who uses reflective listening, motivational interviewing, and modeling a growth mindset in her work with clients. Aqueelah Perez, THW, believes in genuine connection with people to foster an environment of trust and safety. Camille Coleman, MSW, is passionate about client-centered care and wants everyone she works with to know they are valuable and worthy of respect.

Florence Omari, MA, speaks Kiswahili and believes that life is full of stories, and we are authors and narrators of our own stories. Jennifer Berry, MA, believes that broken crayons still color and encourages clients to find their unique strengths. Jordyn Morales, MSW, is passionate about helping clients differentiate their feelings and emotions and overcome trauma or severe life stressors.

Kristy Wells-Owens, MSW, understands the importance of finding a provider that feels like a "good fit" and appreciates the courage it takes to reach out for help. Laura Hernandez, who speaks Spanish, believes in taking a trauma-informed and collaborative approach that focuses on you as an individual. Juliana Moran-Larios, who also speaks Spanish, believes in meeting someone where they are and lending an ear to help people change through their experiences.

Phillip Johnson, THW, specializes in mentoring, parenting skills, behavioral redirection, social skills development, conflict resolution, and couples therapy. Our Clinical Director, Fayanna Johnson, MSW, LCSW, seeks to serve clients from a holistic perspective, recognizing that you are more than the issue you bring into the counseling office.

Services Offered

At Anchor Within Counseling, Inc., we offer a range of services designed to meet the unique needs of our clients. These include individual therapy sessions, family therapy, group therapy, and community programs. We also provide peer support services and have a couples program designed to help couples navigate their relationships and challenges.

Our therapy rates are competitive, and we accept insurance from several providers. We believe that everyone deserves access to quality mental health care, regardless of their financial situation.
