Empowering Children to Become Independent, Confident, and Competent
At Montessori TenderNest Childcare, we are dedicated to providing a nurturing and educational home environment for infants, toddlers, and pre-schoolers in San Diego. Our mission is to empower each child to become independent, confident, and competent, with high self-esteem and respect for others in a joy-filled and diverse family-like setting.
Meet Our Director
Our director, Arlette Khoury, is Montessori-certified and has over 12 years of experience providing nurturing childcare. She is a member of the American Department of Agriculture (ADA) Nutrition Program and has been a manager in the healthcare industry. Arlette is also a continuing personal student of child development research and is dedicated to providing a child-centered educational environment that is based on the Montessori method.
The Montessori Method
The Montessori method is a scientifically-based, child-centered educational model that has been used for over a century to raise caring, curious, and confident children. The core principles of the Montessori method are respect for the child and recognition that children have an innate curiosity and love of learning. The method emphasizes hands-on, self-directed, and collaborative learning, which enables children to develop strong cognitive skills early on. Our curriculum is designed to meet the unique needs and abilities of each child, ages infant to pre-school, as they explore and learn about the world around them.
Activities
At Montessori TenderNest, we understand that different children have different needs, and we provide a well-rounded activity schedule based on the principles of the Montessori method. Our activities are tailored to each child's age, skill level, and stage of development to ensure the highest level of engagement. Our practical life focus provides children with the opportunity to refine their movements and learn coordination as well as develop a sense of independence. We also offer science and math activities that encourage hands-on learning and experimentation.
Practical Life
Our practical life focus provides children with the opportunity to perform real-life activities such as polishing, scrubbing, pouring, and sweeping. These activities help children develop their fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and independence. We also offer sign language classes for our infants, which helps promote the development of language skills, reinforces language skills already developed, and reduces frustration.
Science
Our science curriculum is designed to encourage children to explore and learn about the world around them through hands-on, interactive activities. We offer lessons on topics such as the seasons, the five senses, why leaves change color, layers of the earth, and biomes of the earth. We also include some simple and fun science experiments to engage children and promote a love of learning.
Math
Our math curriculum is designed to introduce children to basic mathematical concepts using hands-on, concrete materials. We use materials such as beads to help children understand concepts like "large" versus "small" and "long" verses "short." These concepts provide a foundation for more complex mathematical skills later in life.
Sign Language
Our sign language program is designed for our infants and helps promote the development of language skills, reinforces language skills already developed, and reduces frustration. We believe that sign language is an effective way to communicate with babies and allows them to talk back.
