ONE SUMMER A LIFETIME OF MEMORIES
Our Mission
Camp Grier is a sanctuary embedded in 650 acres of natural beauty, providing opportunities for connection, service, renewal, and celebration to all since 1952. We are devoted to fostering a sense of commitment and giving to our environment, each other, and ourselves, with a focus on serving others through faith. Our initiatives are designed to give back to the community and create a sustainable environment that will last for generations to come, promoting conservation and joy in the great outdoors.
Our Story
Camp Grier was founded on July 16, 1952, by Robert D. Grier of Statesville, NC, as an outdoor ministry of the Presbyterian Church. When Duke Power revealed plans to build Lake Norman, the Presbytery was in danger of losing its camping facilities. In the summer of 1950, Mr. Grier purchased 600 acres of land in Old Fort, NC to start another camp for the Concord Presbytery. Camp Grier was named in memory of Mr. Grier's father, the Rev. John McDill Grier.
Today, Camp Grier continues to instill values of compassion, perseverance, and leadership in the next generation of young people. We believe in the transformative power of outdoor experiences, teaching children how to embrace challenges, solve critical problems, and view the world through a lens of compassion. Our commitment to providing outdoor experiences for all children remains stronger than ever, as we recognize the critical need for outdoor play and exploration.
