Our Philosophy
At the Clarendon Child Care Center, we believe that every child is unique and deserves a nurturing environment that fosters their growth and development. We understand that children learn best when they are engaged in activities that are meaningful to them, and we strive to create an atmosphere that encourages curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
Our Services
We offer a range of services designed to meet the needs of our young students and their families. Our program is centered around child-centered learning, where our highly-qualified teachers engage children in developmentally appropriate activities that are directed by the children's interests and needs. Our unique parent cooperative structure provides parents with opportunities to be involved in our school, participate in decision-making, and participate in their child's education.
Classrooms
We offer two classroom settings to accommodate children of different ages and needs. Our Twos and Young Threes classroom is designed for children as young as two years and six months old, with a small group size and highly-supportive staff. Our Older Threes, Fours, and Fives classroom is a mixed-age setting where children aged three through five work and play together, with four teachers, a full-time aide, and a part-time aide.
Staff
Our staff is comprised of creative, nurturing, and professional teachers who are dedicated to providing a high-quality education to our students. Our teachers have a minimum of an Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a directly related field, and they participate in ongoing professional development. Our staff is trained in CPR, first aid, and health screening, and many have advanced degrees and certifications in early childhood education.
Our Day
Our daily routine is designed to promote a balance of quiet and active play, structured and unstructured activities, and individual, small group, and large group experiences. Children are given many choices and the freedom to move between areas of the classroom, which includes a variety of materials and activities, such as library, block building, pretend play, manipulatives, art, sensory, and science areas.
Our History
Our center is led by our Director, Sandra Redmore, who has over 25 years of experience in early childhood education. Sandra is active in the local baby boomer community and has worked with the Virginia Cooperative Preschool Council, the Arlington County Child Care Initiative working group, and NoVa Outside, an environmental educator's alliance.
Our Location
We are located at 1305 North Jackson Street, Arlington, VA, 22201.
